History

In much of the world, when it comes to FAX, the first brand that comes to mind is BROTHER. The story of this brand began across the world, in 1908, in Japan, when Mr. Kanekichi Yasui founded the company Yasui Sewing Machine to manufacture sewing machines, aimed at the industrial segment. In the 20s, Masayoshi Yasui inherits the business and changed its name to Brother’s Yasui Sewing Machine Co. But it was only in 1928 that Brother would be established and marketed. The brand began the production of domestic sewing machines in 1932. Two years later, on January 15, it has joined Nippon Sewing Machine Manufacturing Company, which would lead to the Brother Industries we know today.

Over the years, the company expanded by opening a sales division, in 1941, and started the export of sewing machines in 1947, inaugurating the first sales offices in the United States in 1954, with the establishment of a subsidiary. It was the beginning of a period of strong internationalization to BROTHER. It was also this same year the company increased its product portfolio, starting to produce small household electrical appliances such as fans and washing machines. In 1958, it was time to settle in the European Continent with the opening of a subsidiary in Dublin, Ireland.

The company took the name Brother Industries Ltd. officially only in 1962, and at the end of the decade, in 1968, arrived to Brazil officially. It was not until 1971 that the brand entered the printing industry, in which it would be known, with the launch of the fastest dot matrix printer of the time. In the remainder of this decade, the company reduced the producing of small household appliances to devote to development and production of printing and communication products. In the early 80s, the first electronic typewriters were introduced. With this, Brother became sponsor and official supplier for electronic typewriters of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. This event was extremely important for BROTHER pave his path as a global brand.

The year of 1987 was one of the largest in its history, with the start of production of fax machines and laser printers, in addition to the entry in the market of equipment for communication. Quickly, the Brother Fax machines and printers earned reputation in the market, and a large sales volume. The following year, they opened Japan first “Brother Shipping Center”, and a branching of electronic items of stationery. The first ink jet printers began to be produced by the company in 1992. Two years later, they reached the milestone of 30 million typewriters produced since the launch. In 1995, Brother has launched a revolutionary device, the first multifunction machine, which included, in one, a fax machine, a printer, a scanner and a copier.

With the arrival of the new millennium, BROTHER reached historic and significant numbers when the production of the Fax machines reached 20 million units in 2002, attesting the quality and competence of the Japanese brand to make this device popular and a success in the entire world. Today, as one of the leading global manufacturers of communications equipment, Brother has developed, and continues to develop, a variety of products to provide easier and more efficient communication between people and businesses, offering the fax machines and multifunction more complete of the market – equipment with laser technology or ink jet, monochrome or color, with automatic paper feed type or “flatbed” models.
